Charlotte Weinblatt

WEINBLATT, Charlotte Redlener Adelman, Age 91, died in New Rochelle on January 28, 2014. Born and raised in New York City Charlotte had a long and highly successful career as a teacher and was considered inspirational by many of her former, adoring students, some of whom remained in touch with her for decades. Prior to settling into her education career, Charlotte lived at various times in Venice, California, rural Pennsylvania and upstate New York. A rare combination of intelligence, great insight and a deep abiding affection for family characterized her personality and overall life view. While devoted to raising her children – and before beginning a 35-year teaching odyssey – Charlotte worked as an accountant and for a number of years was the charismatic manager of her in-laws” bungalow colony, Sunnylane, in Sullivan County, New York. She was a magnificent woman of grace and caring who endured many tragedies and the loss of some of the people she loved most (cousins, her only sister, Helen, her beloved husband, Jerry Weinblatt and a cherished grandson, Jason). Self-assured, independent and strong, she was painfully aware of the infirmities that accompanied the aging process and the gradual onset of impediments to her mobility and independence Yet, Charlotte never succumbed to self-pity or disengagement from her family or friends. Her optimism, sense of humor and resiliency were undaunted by adversity or challenge, all of which made her an unparalleled role model and source of strength. She was, as she often proclaimed, with love and laughter, the matriarch. To say she will be missed is to understate the impact of her loss in the lives of her family members and many close friends. She is survived by three sons, Irwin Redlener, his wife Karen, Neil Redlener and his partner Deanna, Eric Redlener, his wife Gloria, grandchildren David, Michael, his wife Ania, Stephanie, Jesse, his wife Kari, Rachel, her wife Thea, Jenna, her husband Nasir, Sasha, Jacob, and great grandchildren Caleb, Mia, Naomi, Aaron, Olivia, Ben, Eloise, Solomon and Lily, daughter-in-law Pam and granddaughters-in-law, Judith and Sheareen. After Charlotte died, her sons found a box filled with poems, instructions (like, literally, don”t forget to dress warmly, don”t fight over possessions, be kind to each other, value family above all else), newspaper articles she wanted us to read after she was gone, legal papers, her life chronology. She was determined to leave her mark, her counsel and her love with all of us, long after she left the living world. So many remarkable legacies that have helped shape every life she touched. Per Mom”s wishes, a family service will be held on January 29, 2014. She would have preferred that in lieu of flowers, friends and family are encouraged to consider donations to the Children”s Health Fund accessible at www.childrenshealthfund.org.
