Jean B. Kaestner, 94 on Valentine’s Day, passed away on February 15, 2013. She was the beloved wife of the late Albert C. Kaestner, daughter of the late Charles and Edith Benedict and sister of the late Grace Bardwell and Charles Benedict. Born in Bronxville, NY she lived in Warwick, RI for 27 years. Devoted mother of Barbara Curry and her husband Piers, Susan Kaestner and her companion Art Pascuzzi, Judith Gootkind and her companion Leonard Cuoco and her former son-in-law Kenneth Gootkind. Loving grandmother of Robert Kunz, Allyn Jones, Leah Gootkind and Bryna Gootkind. Cherished great grandmother of Emma, Elizabeth, Laura, Owen, Calli and Raelyn. A memorial service will be held at 5:30 on Tuesday, February 19 at the Trinity Episcopal Church, 139 Ocean Avenue, Cranston, RI. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 23 at the Westchester Funeral Home, 190 Main Street, Eastchester, NY. Visiting hours will be held from 9:00 to 10:30 followed by a service. Sister Mary Eucharista Johnson, 78, of Mount Vernon, passed away on March 1, 2013. She was born Marlene Leocadia Johnson on November 19, 1934 to Haskell and Sophia (Ruth) Johnson in Baltimore, MD. She received a Bachelor’s in Theology at St. Joseph’s College in Collegeville, Indiana in 1973. From there Eucharista went on to receive a Master’s in Theology from St. Bonaventure University in NY in 1980. Eucharista was a member of the Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities. She was originally with the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for two years. She was a teacher and principal in the Syracuse area and in Mattydale and Baldwinsville, NY, a Pastoral/Parish Minister in Camden, NJ, and a Parish Associate in Glassboro, NJ. Besides being a teacher and principal, in her later years she counseled and led groups for the bereaved and divorced. Eucharista is survived by her loving nieces – Jean (David) Stratniger and Diane Blake. She was predeceased by her brothers Thomas and Buddy Johnson. Visitation will be held Monday, March 4, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8 at THE WESTCHESTER FUNERAL HOME, INC., EASTCHESTER. Beloved husband of Patricia Venuti Pinto, Devoted father of Donna Myers and her husband Geoff, Toni Tiso and her husband Chris, Maryanne Calby and her husband Bruce and John Pinto and his wife Jen. Dear brother of Phil Pinto and his wife Joan, Cherished grandfather of Kristen, Kelly and Justin Myers, Alexandra, Andrew and Sophia Tiso, Jack, Dana, Bridget and Dean Calby and Chloe, Nick, Elle and Augy Pinto. Also survived by his sister-in-law Nancy Laudadio and several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Don was a firefighter with the Town of Eastchester for 32 years. Donny was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, He loved to travel, camp and fish with his family and friends. He cherished his friends as family and his home was always open to share a meal, a laugh and a good time. He will be missed by all who knew him. Marie M. Miles, 90, A longtime resident of Bronxville died on March 10, 2013. She was born on October 6, 1922 in New York City to the late Dr. John and Marie (Henken) Maeder. Marie was a long time volunteer at Lawrence Hospital’s Bargain Box. She had an amazing zest for life and expressed it by traveling extensively. Over the course of her life her journeys saw her encircle the globe many times and visit all seven continents in the process. Happiest on a ship, at sea, often commented that she wished stopping in port was not necessary. She is survived by her two sons, John Stewart Reid and Clayton John Michael Miles and her five grandchildren, Terry and Josie Reid, Graham, Christopher and Cameron Miles. Rudy Ruderman, beloved friend, mentor, father, grandfather and brother, died unexpectedly March 9 at his home in Scarsdale. He was 86. A lifelong New York-area newsman in print, radio and TV, Rudy worked at Voice of America, BusinessWeek, NBC and The Wall St. Journal Radio, among other news organizations. At WNEW radio in the 1970s and 80s, he was a news and financial reporter, news editor and even part- time Broadway theatre critic whose voice was well-known to listeners in the New York City metropolitan area and later nationally as a syndicated financial news reporter. He was among the first broadcast reporters to be accepted into the New York Financial Writers Association. Born in The Bronx in 1926, he served as a US Army Staff Sergeant in the 8th Regiment,in Europe during WWII, seeing combat duty in France and Germany. He graduated from Antioch College and began graduate studies at Yale University. His 50-year marriage to Anne Tully Ruderman, a psychotherapist, ended with her death in 1998. Rudy was known for his genuine warmth and kindness, encyclopedic knowledge, love of language, words, puns and puzzles, plus his sharp wit and ever-present sense of humor. He was always the first to find the bright spot and a light touch, even in the most trying circumstances. He is survived by his sister, Anita Somers of Brewster, NY; sons Jim and Dan of Larchmont, NY, and Great Barrington, MA, respectively; and four grandchildren. Freddy graduated Eastchester High School in 1968 and attended RCA Institute in NYC. He was a member of Operating Engineers Local 825. Freddy was a guitar player, drag racer, and avid reader. In his spare time, he enjoyed building model cars. He is pre-deceased by his father, Alfred “Chick” Spatafore.
